Position Summary:   Coordinates the activities of the Special Education Department at the school in which they are responsible.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Lead planning for state assessment student accommodations and small group instruction needs. 
  2. Coordinate PCA and paraprofessional absence coverage in conjunction with the main office and Principal.
  3. Take a leadership role in PCA assignment and dyad/triad development in partnership with the Principal and Elementary Special Education Supervisor.
  4. Responsible for inventory, order, and dissemination of instructional materials and other equipment in the department.
  5. Provide input in the decisions that affect department teachers.
  6. Meet with the principal regularly throughout the school year; these meetings may be before or after school.
  7. Responsible for communicating information between the principal/supervisor of special education and department teachers.
  8. Meet with the department and provide feedback to the principal/supervisor of special education concerning those meetings.
  9. Responsible to ensure that the department submits necessary forms and paperwork.
  10. Assist substitutes within the department as needed.
  11. Participate when invited to take part in the interview process for teachers and support staff.
  12. Assist in the development and revision of school documents (e.g. staff handbook, student/parent handbook, school emergency plans).
  13. Act as liaison/contact person between the department and PTO representatives.
  14. Provide input for topics and facilitate extended Monday activities with the department.
  15. Participate in school organizational processes (e.g. student placement and scheduling).
  16. Other duties as assigned by the building principal/supervisor of special education.
